Boy, 9, killed by minivan in skateboard accident in Kansas City, North – Kansas City Star

The accident happened about 5:30 pm along Northeast Winn Road and North Bellfountaine Avenue.

The female driver was headed west on Winn when the two children came down a hill out of the parking lot on the skateboard.

“The woman stopped but not in time,” said Sgt. Bill Mahoney with Kansas City police. “Unfortunately, she struck both of the children.”

The 6-year-old was rushed to Children’s Mercy Hospital with very critical head injuries, Mahoney said. The boys are believed to be from the area.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police.

The neighborhood has a lot traffic in the area and a lot of children.

Alcohol has been excluded as a possible contributing factor in the crash. Police are investigating to determine whether speed was a factor. The driver was expected to be released Saturday night pending further investigation.
