Lancaster skateboarder killed after hit by car identified; bicyclist also injured – The Herald

A 20-year-old Lancaster man riding a skateboard died in a crash with a car late Thursday in Lancaster County that remains under investigation, police said.

Carlos Lorenzo Velasco of Lancaster was identified as the man on the skateboard who died at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster after the incident, according to Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. A bicyclist also involved in the crash was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.

The incident happened about 11:55 p.m. on Lynwood Drive, about two miles south of Lancaster, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The car involved was heading north on Lynwood when it collided with Velasco and the bicyclist, who were also headed north, Miller said.

Neither the skateboarder nor cyclist had lights or reflective equipment, Miller said.

No charges have been filed.
