A family who suffered a heartbreaking loss after a skateboard accident last month is getting some help from people they’ve never met.

Jorden Hale, 8, was killed after he was hit by a car while riding his skateboard. A younger friend was critically injured.

Twisters Bar and Grill in Bonner Springs held a silent auction on behalf of Hale’s family.

The person who organized the event said she grew up with Hale’s grandmother and felt the need to do something to help the family through its ordeal.

“They’re trying to stay strong for Jorden, but you can just see it in their eyes,” said organizer Missy Burke. “That’s why we took this on. They’re having trouble paying for the funeral costs and just getting past the funeral. Let’s get this paid for and get them back on thinking happy thoughts about Jorden.”

A fund has also been set up to help the family. Anyone who wishes to donate can do it through this website.
